Diving
Thailand is well known for some great diving sites and the cruising area around Phuket provide access to a number of them. Thailand have also now started with preserving marine resources and it now makes it even better for diving as the coral and reefs are now allowed to regrow and the fish are returning. All divers needs a PADI or equivalent qualification to go out on organized diving trips. Unqualified divers can do courses in Phuket or do some resort dives to get their hair wet as well.
Most of the diving centers are around Phi Phi, Ko Lanta and Ko Racha being some of the most popular sites. If you have some extra time and you come in the North East wind season, you can plan your itinerary to go to a few of the worlds beautiful diving sites at Similan Islands. We recommend that you talk to us for more information on the Similan Islands.
Prices on group diving ranges from 1500 THB to 2500 but it varies from dive center to dive center for two dives and lunch included. Diving equipment are available if you arrange in advance and you can get your tanks refilled at any of the dive centers/shops or live aboard diving boats that are in most of the dive sites.
Fishing
Fishing with rod and reel or hand lines are permitted in most of the cruising area with the exception of the marine parks. There are no fishing permits needed for the cruising area. The best fishing is on the 50m drop off and will require some extra time to get there and back. There are no recorded instances of Ciguatera in the cruising grounds. If you fail to catch any, there will be local fishermen that will gladly sell you some of their freshly caught catch. Please let us know in advance if you would like to buy fishing gear. We recommend that you buy it on the way to the boats.
